Washington Winter Show 2023
6 WELCOME 2023 WASHINGTON WINTER SHOW T he natural inclination to collect objects that have meaning to us is an impelling force that connects people to history, family and their own identities. This is equally true for those who channel their collecting to antiques. It is difficult to describe the magic one feels when finding an object that elicits a memory or evokes your personal style and aesthetic. Whether you collect too much (that could never be) or cherish a few antique pieces, the true art of collecting is curating. The Oxford dictionary defines the verb curate as follows: to select, organize, and look after objects or works of art. That’s right, YOU are a curator. We are all curators of our own homes and environments. It is our great honor and privilege to serve as co-chairs of the 2023 Washington Winter Show and to welcome you back to the first in-person Show in three years. For sixty-eight years devoted volunteers have given their valuable time, creativity and patronage in order to ensure the finest and most beautiful Show possible can provide support to both our wonderful dealers but also our charities THEARC, the Bishop T. John Walker School for Boys, and The Founders Board of St. John’s Community Services. The 2023 Washington Winter Show, Curating: from Classic to Contemporary, was designed to bring out and inspire the master curator in each of us. Incorporating treasured antiques and objects into your everyday environment is a way to re- experience the joy felt when you found or acquired them. This year’s Show will bring together life long collectors and curators who will share their secrets for showcasing collections in new and exciting ways. Across the weekend you will have the opportunity to hear from and meet master curators: • Ken Fulk, internationally renowned interior designer and event producer, our Friday Luncheon speaker. • Tori Mellott, Robin Henry, Laura Hodges and Nestor Santa-Cruz, when they share their insights on interior design during the Design Panel. • J. Max Barger & Michael Smerkanich, at PNC Private Bank’s discussion on protecting your investments in decorative and fine arts. • Sir Peter Crane and Thomas Lloyd, tell the story of Bunny Mellon beyond the garden. This page is sponsored by Hannah Cox in Honor of the 2023 Show Chairs, Sarah McKenna and Daryl Muller
