Newport Show 2023
8 Access Newport Newport Curates is honored to collaborate with and access the archives of the Newport Historical Society. Newport has always been on the cutting edge of artistic expression. Mixing our rich cultural history with our current evolving landscape is an interesting visual dialogue. This collaborative exhibition features artwork by artist Bob Knox with pieces from the Newport Historical Society’s collection. Bob Knox was born in New York City and raised in New England. A student at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Rennes, France he continued his education at Wesleyan University. A prolific painter, Bob’s work often projects a deep sense of irony and visual metaphor. His layered paintings build a story using everything from classic objects, interior design and historic art references to engage and invite the viewer into his private world. During his graphic art years (1980–1996), Bob became famous for his socially relevant and conceptual New Yorker Magazine covers. He produced over 20 covers. In addition to the magazine he also wrote and illustrated several best selling children’s books published by Rizzoli.
